Data Fortresses

A data fortress refers to the naturally occurring archive of sironetic information manifested as a result of gathering Otømøton. Data fortresses are inaccessible to anyone but Otømøton; However, data can be downloaded into a physical space by an accessing member of the data fortress. Otømøton can chose to be part of a collective or shut themselves off to data transfer entirely. Otømøton have the ability to access data fortresses as long as they have a connection to the magical lay lines that span across the world of Murd.

When resting (At the end of the day and only when in a location considered ‘safe’) an Otømøton may attempt to access a data fortress they contribute to by rolling an arcana or investigation check v DC 12. If an Otømøton successfully accesses a data fortress this way, several things occur:

  • the Otømøton may re-roll a number of failed intelligence checks from the previous day up to their proficiency bonus divided by half (rounded up).
  • the Otømøton must chose a piece of data from their own current adventure to upload into the data fortress (this implies that other members of their community may have access to the information uploaded, which may change the dynamic of the narrative)
  • when finished, the Otømøton must then roll an intelligence save vs DC 12 or suffer a Data Spike (1d4 raw damage upon the next failed intelligence roll or save). 


Associated Skill
Run.Darkly
When resting, an Otømøton can chose to ‘Run.Darkly’ for an indefinite period of time. This activates an internal protocol that shuts themselves off from any kind of data transfer or Otømøton based communication.  Otømøton who Run.Darkly cannot be contacted telepathically or through any magical means.  Otømøton can shut off  the protocol by rolling an intelligence save vs DC 12. Failure incurs a Data Spike (1d4 raw damage upon the next failed intelligence roll or save).



Culture of a Data Fortress
Data Fortress Culture heavily depends on the community of Otømøton who compile them. In the Zo’t’onoume, there exists a faction of Otømøton known as the Free Knowledge Society that maintains a library of physical data they allow anyone to access. In the Kossic Archipelago, there is a band of Otømøton Troubadours known as The Wandering Wondering Whelps who dedicate their lives to compiling and releasing libraries of music. More often than not, Otømøtons that band together in small groups share knowledge simply as a means of community, and without any ulterior motives.
