The Grenprinse of Cassó

Excerpt from: Lattrican Religious Traditions, an Overview, by Cosmir Amolfor III

The Grenprinse is a child chosen at random to host the soul of of 1 of 73 prominent liches (known as Precorian Saints) in Lattrican society.  Every cycle, a lottery is held in Pomfa—Capital city of Lattrica—to choose the next 73 hosts.

It is during this cycle that expectant mothers from all walks of life make pilgrimage to Pomfa, with the aspiration of sacrificing their child to host one of the Liches.  Once the children are chosen, they—toghether with their mothers—are welcomed into the Precology, where they spend 3 years in sequestered preparation for the Rite of Wandering Souls.

During the ritual, the lives of both mother and child are lost and remanifested in an near-exact copy of the child sacrificed. This child spends 16-18 years in a state of amnesia, before they wake into their Lichdom.

The Emperor A.K.A. the 'Grenprinse', refers to a singular soul that has been necromantically incarnated over thousands of years. The Grenprinse holds the highest seat of power in the Cabinet of High Heaven, which imposes a theocratic rule over Cassó and its neighboring nation—Roya—from a holy arcology known as the Pyramid of Fat.
