Yx
Cleric of KelemvorWhat follows is common knowledge as it relates to your character.
On The Church of Kelemvor
The church of Kelemvor is primarily concerned with the rightful treatment of dying individuals and their spirits, believing that they assist in guiding post-corporeal souls to places where they will find rest. Kelemvorites believe that death is a part of life, and that death is a new beginning.
Kelemvorites help others meet their deaths with dignity at the proper time. Most clergy have no intent to devastate or spread death and often oppose those who extend their lifespans or utilize animancy or necromancy (though Kelemvorite magic is a form of animancy)
Kelemvorites are generally lawful but consider undead as abominations and will generaly destroy them if they are not outright stewarded by a societal authority.
The clergy of a Kelemvorite church include:
-
Doomguide; disciplined evangelists or travelling lay people who aid others in dealing with undead or untended necromancy. Doomguides are generally the warriors of a kelemvorite church.
-
Mortarch; priests who specialize in funerals and the consecration of graves. They are charged with mantaining and passing on knowledge regarding burial customs, and can often be found traveling and providing services as a death doula.
- Necrobane; Necrobanes are strictly dedicated to the destruction of undead creatures. They hunt enemies of Kelemvor and are generally zealous about their beliefs.
- Laypeople; worshippers and private practitioners of the faith.
On Mortarchs in the world of Mørda
While discipleship of Kelemvor is uncommon, the most commonly found clergy-member are Mortarchs. Also known as Gravecharmers, Kelemvorite Mortarchs use a series of rituals and specialized spells to prevent buried corpses from becoming undead. Mortarchs oft find work among superstitious communities around the world or with communities that live around necropolises.
Church of The Emancipation of Sutur
The Church of Sutur is the largest clergy of Kelemvorites in Tassos. It is likely that Yx has some connection with the Church of Sutur, whether it be a mentor or a series of mentors that brought them into the fold.
Kelemvorites often wear priest-like robes and silver circlets around their heads and wrists. Churches of Sutur are known for their constant burning of olibanum. There is a small temple in Pithe, where it is reasonable that Yx would find free lodging. While there are not many kelemvorites present at the temple, there are a few laypeople that visit to pray, as well as a few priest-of-the-grounds, who take turns cleaning and caring for the place.
The church is named after the Kelemvorite Saint, Holy Sutur Ehadi Matricia—who, in life was a prominent iconographer, but was raised in death over and over again to do battle. He was finally put to rest by a Kelemvorite after years of conquest, resulting in his ‘Emancipation’ from corporeal labor.
